Highlights from Day 11 of SOM 1 and Related Meetings
28 February 2017, Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa, Viet Nam - SOM 1 and Related Meetings continued day 11 with meetings from APEC committees and fora, namely Trade and Investment (CTI), Economic (EC), Economic and Technical Cooperation (SCE) and Internet Economy (AHSGIE).
On the last working day of CTI, delegates reviewed the work plans of the Chemical Dialogue (CD), Life Science Innovation Forum (LSIF), Intellectual Property Expert Group (IPEG) and Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance (SCSC). Member economies held substantive discussions and proposed a range of initiatives aiming at enhancing participation of small and medium enterprises in the global value chains, rules of origin, capacity building in negotiating free trade agreements, etc.
Meanwhile, the EC discussed its 2017 APEC Economic Policy Report on Structural Reform and Human Capital Development. Delegates also reviewed the APEC agenda on structural reform and Ease of Doing Business Action Plan (2016 -2018).
Chairs of SCE fora, in today’s meeting, presented their 2017 work plans and highlighted activities relevant to APEC 2017 priorities. The committee also discussed the implementation of the “Policy on APEC’s Capacity Building through Economic and Technical Cooperation” and explored options to further support developing member economies in implementing APEC commitments.
AHSGIE, concluded its meeting, agreeing on the initial process and timeline for the eventual establishment of the Roadmap on Internet Economy, to be completed at the end this year.
Tomorrow, the last working-level meetings at SOM 1 will take place in Nha Trang, before member economies begin the most important meeting - SOM 1, from 2-3 March.
