APEC Senior Officials completed their last meeting of APEC 2017

On the afternoon of 7 November 2017, in Da Nang, the CSOM has concluded its two-day meeting to finalize preparations for the 29th APEC Ministerial Meeting and the 25th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting.

Over the past two days, APEC Senior Officials have thoroughly reviewed and discussed deliverables for 2017 from more than 50 APEC committees and fora, with a particular focus on this year's key outcomes and initiatives.

Senior Officials discussed measures to speed up implementation of APEC's existing frameworks and action plans in various areas, including human resource development and education cooperation; inclusive and sustainable development; women’s economic empowerment; globalization of MSMEs; start-ups and innovation; services competitiveness; and structural reform.

APEC member economies highly valued outcomes from Ministerial-level meetings held after SOM 3, particularly the endorsement of the Can Tho Statement on Enhancing Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture in response to Climate Change.

Senior Officials also discussed maintaining free and open trade, trade facilitation and support for the multilateral trading system. The meeting adopted the Internet and Digital Economy Roadmap, which will be submitted to APEC Ministers for consideration. APEC member economies also welcomed initiatives on cross-border e-commerce, supply chain connectivity and supporting industry. Senior Officials also expressed their support for activities towards the eventual realization of the Free Trade Area of the Asia – Pacific.

To contribute to advancing APEC reform efforts, Senior Officials agreed to an ongoing mandate for the APEC Policy Support Unit.  They also welcomed the Economic Committee – Senior Finance Officials' Meeting Joint Action Plan and APEC – OECD Framework on Competition Assessment.

Senior Officials agreed to submit long-term strategic documents that will help shape APEC cooperation in the coming decades for APEC Ministers and Economic Leaders to consider.
